we have aRAIN SOFT SYSTEM ,wepurchased it in 2001, my question is .....does the salt go into the salt container ...with water ....or does the salt remain dry in the salt part of the system?

The system puts a measured amount of water in with the salt to create the brine solution needed to periodically regenerate the softeners resin. The salt container should never be completely dry.

If it is dry - It's not working.
