John has 3000 litters of fuel and one car,
He wants to take his fuel to another place (distance of 1000 meters away) with his car.
There are few rules:
Only the car can carry fuel.
The car can carry at most 1000 litters
Each meter the car using 1 liter of this fuel.
Of course its possible to leave same fuel somewhere and go back to take it.
Please help John to maximize the amount (in litters) he can take to the new place.
Please write complete answer, not only number.

Thanks
