figure this surrender was too easy....and does anyone besides me figure this was a secret done deal arranged through intermediaries so that Saddam would be "captured" without incident in exchange for guarantees on his life or some arrangement that benefits both Saddam and George?
that's how I feel....sorry. I know it may seem far fetched to you.
I have no idea - conspiracy theories are a dime a dozen - but sometimes they are correct. He doesn't look like he's been having much fun.
Does anyone else think that even evil dictators ought not to be filmed while having medical examinations?
You 'Mericans are nearing election time, yes?
I find this development remarkably free of second-guessing I can buy, Bi...
And I seem to have read them all this morning, including: he's only alive until he gives up the WMDs, then he'll be 'Oswalded'; if there really are no WMDs he'll be 'Oswalded'; that his trial will carry on all through the election season and include timely revelations revealed to squeeze Halliburton or bad economic news off the front page; blahblahblah.
He got caught because he got tired of running. And I don't say that to diminish in any way the efforts of our soldiers.
(P.S.: if you were a marauding dictator on the lam, would you trust a deal with someone named Bush?)
Whether there was a deal to capture him or not we may never know. But you can bet the farm that now that they have him they will try to reach a deal to turn in the rest of the resistance leaders.
I just don't have any trust whatever for the Bush administration. I can't help it.
I hope this incident brings the troops that much closer to coming home, but I do agree that the timing is suspicious. More people than ever have been questioning the war and the future of the Bush presidency...how lucky for W that he didn't have to wait for Saddam as long as he has for Osama.
Shhh...mentioning osama is unpatriotic.
I'm betting that as our troops moved to capture Saddam, a former trusted associate of the creep's inner circle was headed out of the country with a great big suitcase full of bounty money.
It's very possible, noddy. Information is a valuable thing.
As to the timing -- wouldn't it be a lot more suspicioius if the capture came next year, with the subsequent disclosure that he'd led our folks to huge caches of WOMDs? To think John Q. Public votes based on a 10-month-old news story -- seems a little far-fetched to me.
