It is a reference to a Monty Python motion picture--c.f. the Knights of Ni. Monty Python was a popular entertainment for the peasants in the 1970s and -80s. You might ask your housemaids about it . . . or better yet, ask the footmen.

Naw, there's enough clutter around here as it is . . . we had to let the sculldery maid and the postillions go because there was too much clutter in the servant's quarters.
