Sounds like you've got mold. Is there a problem with mold in your area?

When the humid air is cooled, it loses water (same as dew forming at night). Your AC should have a drain to outside your house to remove this water. If that drain is clogged or is not installed correctly, it could be puddling inside the house and promoting mold growth.
