Canajun money is very pretty.

I think pounds and US dollars are the most boring currencies in the world.

Mind you, Oz money looked rawther hectic when I got back!

@dadpad,
What I have noticed is that when the US dollar is weak, prices rise. When it is stable, prices don't rise quite as fast.

You live in a fantasy land my friend.

Yeah, thought I might have been stretching the realms of possibility a bit there.

@margo,
Why?

What the hell would we do with them after we invaded?

Check your central bank's interest rates--it might explain the sudden drop in the relative value of the American dollar. The Canadian central bank is agonizing because Canadians are carrying too much debt, which can be curbed by raising interest rates. However, higher interest rates attract investment in the Canadian dollar, which would "drive down" the value of the American dollar relative to the Loonie. And that would hurt Canadian exports, as the U.S. is their largest trading partner. This, of course, is a greater consideration for the Canajuns than the Aussies--at least i suspect so.

The Australian dollar has surged - again - soaring to a record overnight as buyers snapped up the currency.

The dollar hit 103.38 US cents at at 3.25am eastern daylight time as it gained strength against its US counterpart. As recently as May 2010, the dollar was worth 81.58 US cents. Since then, it has risen a staggering 26.7 per cent.
If strong retail sales or building approvals numbers are released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics at 11.30am the Aussie could test the 104-US-cent level, Mr Schlossberg said.
"As concerns over geo-political problems in Japan and Libya begin to ease and risk sentiment improves currency investors have once again become interested in (the) Aussie's G7-leading 4.5 per cent yield," said New York-based Boris Schlossberg, director of currency research at GFT.

Have you gotten rid of your 1 and 2 dollar notes for coins yet?
Do you think paper grows on trees?

@Eorl,
Canada has, more than 30 years ago. The U.S. has always had dollar coins, but since the mid-20th century, no one wants to use them.
