End of the World...AGAIN

Why is it that people love to scare each other with fake end of the world revelations? President of Family Radio Ministry (Harold Camping) has predicted that the rapture will take place in May 2011. Of course, Mr. Camping has been wrong many times before.

People get excited about the possibility of the end of life as we know it and perhaps the hope of a better world coming under God's leadership. However, THE END never comes. What is your view? Why do humans love to scare each other in this fashion? Can it be that BS makes the world go around?

@fdr84,
I think that belief that a better world will come is not such a bad belief. It's the belief that they know it is coming right now or at a date that they can name that speaks to paranoia and human fear. The underlying message is that God has given people a deadline and they better meet it.
It is not surprising because human beings are conditioned to respond to deadlines from authority figures. Bosses, parents, even biology remind us that we have a limited time to get certain things done.
And death is really the ultimate deadline. But is it really?
Some beliefs say no.
If the soul is immortal and God understands the obstacles each soul faces, it seems really unfair to give someone raised in a really bad situation the kind of deadline that we are talking about. After all, people seem to have a limited understanding of life, God, and everything. I think God has to cut people more slack that what these deadline people are saying.

What does it mean again? If the world ends, that's it, right? No second chance, it won't end again.

@Setanta,
Checking the clouds every day to see if Jesus or St. Peter is up there taking a breath to blow a bugle is just a bad way to live, imo.
Anyway, where are all the raptured people going? To heaven. At least until God makes a "new earth" (according to some Christians).
So if someone believes in that, then they believe the end of the world is not the end of reality.
A lot of people just happen to believe that reality is different from Christian beliefs. Even allowing for belief that the world can end...who knows what reality might follow that? Probably something very different from people's beliefs.
