Yonni Barrios is the Chilean version of Johnny Bravo.
(Would Geraldo be there to greet him, had the drama been in the USA?)
Yonni
invited both of them to come out to greet him. sheesh!
Soz, that wheel is really spinning now. Down to about 25 mins per. At that rate the last miner will be out by 9:00 eastern. Then they've got the rescuers to bring up, but it looks good for wrapping up tonight.
@Setanta,
Is that why the Canadian flag is over the pit?
@Ceili,
Try to catch CBC radio for your 6 oçlock news - they were just talking about the pipe and the Canadian flag at the site.
@Ceili,
Ceili - if you pick up As It Happens on CBC radio (1 - I think), the show tonight starts with an interview with the uncle of the first miner who was brought to the surface.
@ehBeth,
Have to be honest, I haven't listened to AIH since they let Barbara Budd go, but I'll try to listen tonight. It should be an interesting interview.
They're going down for the 30th miner now.
I agree with JPB (as usual.) I've been very moved by the President of Chile...how he's been so focused on each and every rescued man and offers such encouraging words each time. He's been an inspiration.
Oh my god I love this story. The last miner is almost out!
@kickycan,
I love this story too. This represents the ability of human kind to be the best that they can be. I have been impressed, wowed, amazed by the cool-headedness and resiliency of these man and the people running the rescue.
Awesome! Now for the rescuers to be brought up and all is well.
Loved the anthem. I can't imagine our Prime Minister ever doing that!!
@Ceili,
Great story that uplifts us humans all over the world.
Outstanding effort all around. Almost unbelievable that it could be done.
Just.....WOW.
I liked their president, as much as I could see from this event. I know nothing about his politics. He just seemed so genuinely involved and emotional. When he was talking to that last miner he said something to the effect that after this, the country isn't the same, and that he (the miner) wasn't the same anymore either. I told myself to remember this, because it will be THE big scene when the movie comes out.
Just one more rescuer, I think...
edit: Nope. There were at least 2 still down there.
@JPB,
Now the last man is on his way up!
He's out! They're all out! It's finally over!!!
<deep breaths>
Truly an amazing undertaking.
Isn't this exactly the sort of situation that should be commemorated by a poem?
