You might like to consider the BBC version of the game in which you could only have twenty questions (yes or no).
Also the items could be complex e.g:

"Iron Curtain" = "Abstract or mineral"

"The New York Times" ="Vegetable and mineral with animal connections"

If we take the last one as an example the panel would would be told "four words including the definite article". They would then usually ask "Is the animal human ?"etc... and the studio audience would applaud each question in proportion to the closeness of the question to the answer even if they got a "no". Ypu could simulate this applause with the comments "warm" "cold" etc.
