Plz help

I know he was in south Africa, Palestine, Iraq, Greece, a few Greek islands while escaping Greece, Crete and North Africa

@BDV,

That's an interesting one. I'll post it on another thread where there are some knowledgeable folks.

@McTag,
This reminds me, Roberta is trying to identify a statue for similar reasons re her father. Maybe I should try to post it on the thread you are talking about too.
(the travel question thread?)

@ossobuco,
This is the travel thread we are talking about, with the good researchers...

McTag's post directs people to your first thread, and my post directs people to Roberta's photo with a similar question.

Okay, let's try to identify bits and pieces of it. That will give more detail for a Google search. For instance, it looks like there is a the hull of a ship near the bottom left side of the monument. At the top, it looks like it could be Poseidon, a trident and a serpent. At the bottom center of the monument, could that be some kind of military helmet or crown?

@BDV,
Have you scanned through sites such as these for clues?

http://www.raf.mod.uk/history/

http://www.secondworldwar.org.uk/spitfire.html

You might also try posting the photo on this forum. It is a gathering spot for RAF types:

Here's another one for posting the photo. It also has many more links that may be useful:

@Butrflynet,
cheers for the links, although he was in the RAF, most of his photos are tourist orientated, until the war got serious, i done some research and the places my grandfather was in, while in Greece where LAMIA, DAPHNI, ARGOS, KALAMATA, KITHERA & CRETE, so the foto could be in on on the road to any of these areas, i know after he landed he flew to lamia from daphni to recon the camp site so that rules out that road. to me taking such a foto makes it look like hes on the move, otherwise he may have taken a more recognizable image.

@Butrflynet,
i thought the statue looked more like a female with a spear (I'm probably completely wrong), isn't Poseidon usually abit more naked Smile ?

the bottom of the statue looks nautical related and the worse thing about it is that it looks so familiar but i can't put my finger on what it is, maybe the coat of arms displayed. Its making my head hurt thinking about it Smile

@BDV,
It does resemble a coat of arms, and the left side corner shows the front of a boat. Must have some nautical meaning to the statue.

@cicerone imposter,
That nautical theme is what made me think it might be Poseidon on the top part. Isn't he usually depicted with a trident and some kind of monster?

Depending on which region it is in, maybe it is Neptune.
