Hi H20 Man, I purchased a home with a softener in it and the Brine tank is about half full of salt that has totally turned into a big block. There is about a foot of water on top of the salt. I read some of the posts and it is suggested to take the tank outside and take hot water to it to break it down and then re-fill. Is this my best option or is there a tank design flaw and purchasing a new tank would be my best bet? If a new tank what would you recommend for a house with 2 adults and 2 small children?

Thanks,
Kevin

@Kevin0428,
wash it out and start over with solar salt, the pellets tend to turn to mush
