IS IT STILL UNSAFE TO OPEN AN ATTACHMENT ??
As we remember, some years ago, much was made of the danger
of opening attachments, because thay were the vehicles of viruses.
I have not heard much about that any more.
Is that still the case?
I just deleted an attachment message, unopened, because of that danger.
Is that still current or now obsolete ??

@OmSigDAVID,
Just keep a pistol pointed at your screen.
It won't help, but you'll
feel safer while doing it.

it still holds as far as i know, i never open unsolicited attachments unless i know the sender and the attachments source
Even opening unsolicited E-mails can be harmful; attachments even more so. If you are not expecting an E-mail with an attachment, even if it comes from someone you know (their computer may have been compromised, do not open it.
@jgweed,
Just opening an email? I didn't know that, though I seldom open them (unknown sender) for many other reasons.
You can download virus systems on your computer. They scan every attachment you open and tell you its danger. DO NOT OPEN attachments in your spam. If you know the sender of your attachment, open it, scan it (only a few seconds), and judge on whether or not it is harmful.
Hope this helps:)
@roger,
Let's be realistic here. No, you will not get a virus by reading email. To get a virus, some code needs to run. Opening an email will not run code with most email programs.
There is caution. Then, there is paranoia. This thread has jumped over the line between these two things.
@OmSigDAVID,
If they are sent by someone I don't recognize, they are selling something or promoting a political viewpoint. I already have everything I want, and have access to every possible political viewpoint right here.
