Every year in grammar school, we did a musical for our parents. Usually it was a fairy tale. A volunteer dance professional did the choreography for us. One year, I got a leading role and sang a solo.
In high school, my drama teacher was a former member of Ethel Barrymore's repertory company. He told me acting jobs are hard to get. As soon as he had a wife and children, he became a full-time high school teacher so that he could get a steady paycheck.
I once acted in a student film for a Northwestern University film student.
