@cicerone imposter,
Yes people have always buildt beautiful places for their god/s and as a place to meet.
The royals buildt wonderful castles for themselves.
And the communistic leaders enourmus buildings as a rule just awful looking in the name of communism.
People like to build something for what they believe in.
Small churches might not be visited by tourists, but that does not mean they are not in use. Churches are as a rule for worship and many happenings in life and death.
What should be done about St. Peter's Basilica in Rome, to help the poor in other countries? Tear it down? Burn it? Forget about it?
What about Westminster Abbey and the poor in other countries?
How about our Lutheran churches and cathedrals? Should we get rid of them to help poor Lutherans?
It certainly is not a solution.

How is Obama getting any work done?
Michelle just got back from a vacation in Spain, now the family is on vacation in Martha's Vineyard.

How does he get any work done when he is always on vacation?
I dont begrudge anyone a vacation, but he sure is taking a lot of them.
I guess it wouldnt be so bad if he went home for vacation, but he doesnt.
He goes everyplace else.

@mysteryman,
mm, Do some research to find out which president took the most vacations - while our country was at war - that "he" started.

Bush took 977 vacation days How many more Vacations will Obama have to take to catch up?

970 at rough guess. But didn't Bush take 8 years holiday? Apart from the two days he spent declaring war on Iraq and Afghanistan that is! Obama has a very long way to go before he can match that.

@mysteryman,
I don´t know how many nor how long or short vacations he has taken.
In Europe we think that a person needs about 3 weeks to recover from work in one stretch. Usually people have 5-6 weeks vacation.
Three weeks in the summer as a rule and then 2 times one week or 1 time two weeks more. Then one can add long week ends in connection with holy days.

Obama has a hard job - just to be in spotslight all the time is hard work.
He will not really recover by going somewhere for a short time now and then.
Especially if he wants to be in the spotlight all the time.
His vacations are not really for recovering and continue to work hard.

@djjd62,
I would call that church a bethel. Those are my favorite churches I think with nautical themes.

Inside is knotty pine with cathedral ceiling all from large pine timbers. Perhaps my favorite church in the world... I think a part of my heart is always here.
