HOW TO CHECK REPUTATION OF ON-LINE MERCHANT ?

Reply Mon 2 Aug, 2010 05:24 am

I wanted to buy a DVD TV series,
from an Internet merchant called both:
"Planet DVD Store" and "TV DVD VILLAGE"

I 've noticed some mistakes on its website.
I wonder how reliable thay are.

Is there a way to check their reputation on-line?
Anything like a Better Business Bureau on-line ?

Yes, thank u. I 've done that.
Thay don 't have it. Any other ideas ?
My Googling appears to indicate that
this entity (by 2 names) has a monopoly on those DVDs.

No one else seems to be offering them.

@OmSigDAVID,
You can also go to eBay, even if you're not looking to buy there. If (a big if) the merchant is listed there, there is a reputation score.

@OmSigDAVID,
a google search of Planet DVD Store revealed this website, a sort of user driven BBB
http://www.complaintsboard.com/complaints/planet-dvd-store-c170856.html

lot's of negative comments, they seem to be selling bootlegged poorly copied versions of tv shows, some indicate they believe they are copied from VHS copies made from the original tv broadcasts

Out of nostalgia: The Guns of Paradise with Sigrid Thornton; a charming little series

Thay also advertized the full TV series of JAG with Catherine Bell, at a very low price.

That is the series at a low price, not Catherine Bell.

I 'm an untrusting person anyway,
but I was moven to heightened awareness by this website
which united the correct description of The Guns of Paradise with Sigrid Thornton,
with pictures of Adventures in Paradise, (a different show) with pictures of a boat
on an ocean, instead of an Old 1800s Western on dry land on the DVD boxes.

@OmSigDAVID,
even legitimate series can be disappointing, years ago i bought some dvd's of the series Dark Shadows, a favourite as a child, the discs were legitimate but the source material is so poor that they are mostly unwatchable, diehard fans apparently put up with the condition of the videos, but i just wanted to watch a show i remembered fondly as a child, not spend good money on poor quality collectibles

oh well, c'est la vie

Well, the possibility remains that u can get the mdse
in decent condition elsewhere in the future, if u wanna.

I 've been fortunate; I 've gotten most (but not all) of my DVDs
from Amazon (quick delivery, too) and everything (from them or not) was in very good condition.
I got the full Science Fiction Theater series with Truman Bradley elsewhere, but good.

I 'd like to find a competent, reliable merchant of
The Guns of Paradise and JAG.

@OmSigDAVID,
This site has a DVD set of Guns of Paradise on sale.

http://www.tvdvdexchange.com/product.php?productid=39200&catid=264

Maybe you can find a way to check on their reputation.

Edit:I just checked this site and the reviews for TV DVD Exchange are poor.

@OmSigDAVID,
{Tangent Alert}:

I recall watching a TV show called James Michner's "Adventures in Paradise" (1959 -1962) that starred Gardner McKay. I then switched allegiances to liking "77 Sunset Strip" " for Ed 'Kookie' Byrnes and "Surfside 6" and Gidget.

@OmSigDAVID,

They have several episodes of Guns Of Paradise on YouTube. I notice from some of the comments that other people are searching to buy a DVD set. Perhaps, if you read through the comments on several episodes, you might find a recommendation for a seller.

checking the wikipedia entry on the show guns of paradise makes no mention of it ever being released on dvd, so i'm guessing any releases you find are going to be bogus (IMDB shows no legitimate release either)

i usually check the wiki entry or the IMDB entry to see if it mentions a dvd release
