Buckyballs are the largest molecules to be seen by mankind. Scientists made them when trying to simulate stars and have manipulated them into useful things since then. The theory was that they exist in space. But until recently, no one had seen any evidence of them in space.

@littlek,
Very cool that they found them in the stars Astronomers had tried to simulate. I wonder why they weren't found in the Earth's crust. Too much hydrogen perhaps? But then again, why does an abundance of hydrogen prevent the natural synthesis of buckyballs but not of graphite and diamonds? Questions, questions, questions ....

Anyway: what a nice epilogue to the Soccer World Cup!
