@cicerone imposter,
And I sat at a cafe table across from the duomo (which is kittycorner from the galleria) and had a croissant and latte one earlyish morning, between catching trains. One thing I'm sorry about is that I didn't take time to see if I could go into La Scala, which is on the other end of the galleria in another square.

Ok, back to the alphabet.

@ossobuco,
I did visit La Scala and their great museum. I accidentally ran into it when I walked through the galleria and walked around beyond that side's entrance. I remember seeing Giuseppe Verdi's piano that he practiced on when he was seven years old, and many pictures of opera greats.

I also remember visiting some sort of fort in the city in addition to seeing the Last Supper by Leonardo by waiting three hours in the hot sun.

@eurocelticyankee,
Reggio Emilia, Italy

This I learned in Modena: ...if you see an old car, it has license plates from Reggio Emilia and the driver is wearing a hat, beware, a testa quedra (square head in Modenese dialect) is on the wheel!

@ossobuco,
Wonderful.
Come to think about it, Reggiani are the Italian cheeseheads.
Boring city, though. The next-door neighbor, and almost twin, every Modenese despises.

@ossobuco,
Settignano, Tuscany, Italy

This is a tear out from a magazine that I pieced together and added to my strange and wonderful things along the long shelf by my drafting table - it's a photo of Villa Gamberaia in the snow in Settignano, which is near Florence. I've not been to it, since one had to call for permission first, at least back then, and I was busy, but from photos, it's one of my favorite italian gardens of the formal sort. Or so I thought at the time.

@Dutchy,
I think you missed Y, Dutchy - or is Ij a form of Y? I'm presently weary from scanning maps for x's, so I'm going to pass.

@ossobuco,
The Dutch Y is spelt as IJ ossobuco, you should be scanning for a city commencing with Z, the X has been posted!
