My business partner's husband was born in an upper class austrian family. The kind of family that move the piano to the summer place.

then came the war

As the bell of fortune would have it, as they were all making their way to the netherlands, the father (who was jewish) died and son and catholic mother got through. This friend had only a grade school education due to all that. Some tech school. He was and probably still is a public radio announcer for classical and jazz music on NPR.

He is fond of Amsterdam.

My wife was born in Gouda, Holland and over the years we've made a few nostalgic trips back to the Netherlands. I too like Amsterdam one of my favourite historical places.
