Phoenix, I wish I could go as often as I used to. I can't walk around. But if I could, I would be sure to see the new Congo exhibit. And the snow leopards. And, oh hell, everything.

I did some Net surfing. Gibbon are apes but not great apes. Bonobos are also called pygmy chimpanzees, which suggests that they are not a separate species.

Why did I post my question here? Lazy. That's why.

Cav's link suggests that we (humans, not just those of us posting here) are great apes of a sort. During my surf I found a great number of groups that are seeking special status or rights for apes. Probably a result of the discovery in Cav's link.

I also learned that there are fewer than 1000 mountain gorillas left. Oy.
