Laura Pudwell singing from Hildegard von Bingen.
Getting ready to see her in concert tonight.
Quote:Laura Pudwell & Ellen Hargis
November 14 & 15, 2003
Two of North America's leading early music singers join forces for an extraordinary recital of early music: beloved Toronto Consort member Laura Pudwell, and American soprano Ellen Hargis. Together these divas have worked with leading conductors and ensembles across North America, Europe and the Far East. Their recital will be a feast of medieval, renaissance and early baroque works, with solos and duets by Hildegard of Bingen, Guillaume de Machaut and Claudio Monteverdi. Don't miss this vocal display!!
it's going to be spine-tingling
My son's alarm clock. But he isn't.!
Just the way you look tonight : Fred Astaire
At the moment I'm listening to some MP3s I newly downloaded, so I'm hearing them for the first time ... random lot, it is. Some cool stuff among it, tho. I got Belle and Sebastian, Dntel, Rahzel & Roots, Sean Paul, Jurassic 5 / Mos Def, DMX, Roots Manuva, Blackalicious, Dilated Peoples, DJ Vadim, Royksopp, and some oldies from Orange Juice. Like I said, varied selection there ;-)
That was totally irresponsible to download all those songs, tho. I was jus looking for that Luke Ski song that Setanta put the lyrics of somwhere in a thread here, the 'cleaning out my closet' spoof. Couldnt find it, but accidentally left KazaaL running. Got me all this tracks that were still in my Traffic window, but, err, that means I suddenly only got 130 MB left free on my hard disk - I was running on 200 MB (on a 10 GB HD), that was jus enough.
I'm at work, unfortunately. . . trying to listen to Chicago's Greatest Hits (the one from the eighties) album in my head, meeting only mixed success. . .
Chicago experiment failed. . . now I'm listening to my Fantastischen Vier. . . Laß die Sonne rein. . .
playlist i called "comfort jazz" - 's got stuff by anita o'day, billie holiday, duke ellington, ella fitzgerald, teddy wilson, jelly roll morton, lots of josephine baker, lionel hampton, sidney bechet, tommy dorsey and others ...
Humble Pie ------ Anthology
My Classic Rock playlist now. . . a lot of Queen, Creedance Clearwater Revival, and the entire Goin' South album they were advertising on tv a few years ago. . . (Black Betty on now)
blatham - i wish you'd tossed me that link a bit earlier. i would have made sure to catch your niece in concert. she sounds like quite a talent!
the concert i went to last night was just a few blocks away. i love that neighbourhood. any excuse to go there ... the promise of good voices is the best kind of excuse.
Quote:In the singing stakes, the ladies carried the day. Henson's Fiordiligi gave a majestic performance, warm and detailed, and matched in flexibility and stability of tone by Latham's Dorabella. Both naturally confident and given to a pleasing intensity, their duets were heavenly.
ehBeth
She has been working VERY hard for a long time. She has her sights on the Met, but it's a tough game. This last summer, she was in California working with Marilyn Horn (that's been an ongoing teacher/student relationship) and Marilyn is passing on her wardrobe to Megan.
I'll let you know when she performs next.
That sounds brilliant, blatham. With a little notice, we might be able to get a couple of Tranna-based A2K'rs in your niece's cheering section.
Brava

BRAVA
<stomp and whistle>
got myself a new turntable(i still refer to it as "record player" - that'll date me!), dusted of the old lp's and am having a great time; how about : the king of swing - benny goodman - complete 1937-38 jazz concert also featuring harry james, gene krupa !!!, lionel hampton and teddy wilson. HELLOOOO ... anybody out there still with me ?hbg.
Hooray!
I guess I'll have to bring along my jazz albums to listen to next time I visit.
Well, if she's ever at the Met, I'll make the trip uptown :-)
listening to the guy who brings the boxes of paper literally THROW one box (of 10 reams) on top of the other....over and over and over again....it's rather nerve racking. every 30 seconds BOOM!
