This is a German singer who revived the old German songs of the 1920 and 1930.
He's quite successful with the younger generation.

@hingehead,
Listening to the isolated bass playing of James Jamerson...awesome Funk Brothers.

@panzade,
Lou Rawls was always a smooth country soul singer by the time I heard him

@panzade,
Hi Panz - didn't Carol Kaye claim she'd played a lot of the bass on tracks credited to the funk brothers - or did I just dream that? It's not mentioned on wikipedia.

@hingehead,
Hi Hinge.
I seriously doubt she was a Funk Sister in Detroit. She was a little too expensive for Gordy.
Maybe when he moved the company to L.A.

@panzade,
That's the story, in the late 6os she started replacing Jamerson on motown recordings. I did a quick hunt and her claims cause a bit of angst in the bassplaying world. Once guy referred to her as the drunk uncle, each christmas her claims get wilder and wilder.

Another guy noted that she was a picker and Jamerson was finger player, so it should be pretty easy to tell them apart.

Never-the-less another reputable article says she has a reasonable claim to be the most recorded bass player of all time (over 55 year session career).

Now I'm listening to the whole Wildflowers album by Tom Petty because I heard a song that reminded me how much I loved it on my commute today:
