I've never heard a Steely Dan song played so well live. The clarity of the horn lines and backing singers is amazing.

@hingehead,
Olgs, Panz and Deej - it always amazed me that James were the 90s band Eno lent his talents too. I've often wondered why. I really liked Sit Down too - but in my moments of 'why haven't my people got to this planet and taken me home yet?' Born Of Frustration was always on the turntable - an all time fave. Might just whip it out (digitally of course).

@hingehead,
Smile
Well this has been my very first encounter. Post more here, I say!

Panzade, I used to be a (second-hand, rather "enforced" Steely Dan fan. Shared houses, you know how it goes!) Will take a listen now.

@msolga,
I don't need much encouragement
This is the version of Sit Down I know best
the original rough trade version and video is kind of cute

And the Voice of the Beehive did a decent version too.

Born of frustration - man I'm getting a shiver up my spine during the intro even with crappy youtube audio

@hingehead,
Thanks for obliging, hinge.

Love it! (I think the lyrics might have been written for me! Wink )

Loved the Laid lyrics, too.

Right! Gonna do a bit of James YouTubing later on today!

(Just noticed a second one! Listening now.)

@hingehead,
also a good live band, i never saw them, but the one live cd they put out and a dvd plus some bootleg stuff i've seen and heard show that they can pull off the songs quite well

@djjd62,
That's surprising Deej - particularly the vocals and horn in 'Born'. I don't think they ever even toured here.

I've been listening to the Charlatans GH lately. Never really got into them at the time but it's quality britpop/crossover.

What is it about Steely Dan that just says 'quality'? I'm not a huge fan but there's an attention to detail and craft that's instantly recognisable.

Rare alternate version of "Start Me Up." So much better than the original. Wow.

@TTH,
Thank You for bringing back the APP song TIME. It is a beautiful song. The video was real nice also.
Time, flowing like a river
Time, beckoning me
Who knows when we shall meet again
If ever
But time
Keeps flowing like a river
To the sea

Goodbye my love, Maybe for forever
Goodbye my love, The tide waits for me
Who knows when we shall meet again
If ever
But time
Keeps flowing like a river (on and on)
To the sea, to the sea

Till it's gone forever
Gone forever
Gone forevermore

Goodbye my friends, Maybe forever
Goodbye my friends, The stars wait for me
Who knows where we shall meet again
If ever
But time
Keeps flowing like a river (on and on)
To the sea, to the sea

Till it's gone forever
Gone forever
Gone forevermore
