Listening to samples of Dylanesque, Brian Ferry's covers of Dylan songs. It's very weird. Remeber when Pat Boone did an album of Metallica covers?

Many have, The Byrds come most quickly to mind. The thing with Ferry is that he's got such a style of his own that Dylan gets lost in the translation. Maybe I need to give it more listens. Just not right now.

Yeah, the groups.Byrds, The Band. Dylan's songs are solidly good so the bands get a chance to interpret, but I think it's harder for a solo singer to interpret them

I suppose you're right, although it shouldn't be. His songs should transcend the singer. Bryan has such a lounge lizardness that lends a shallowness to even the deepest lyrics.
