Sky Pilot, by the Animals.

i love that friggin song...

He blesses the boys as they stand in line
The smell of gun grease and the bayonets they shine
He's there to help them all that he can
To make them feel wanted he's a good holy man
Sky pilot.....sky pilot
How high can you fly
You'll never, never, never reach the sky

He smiles at the young soldiers
Tells them its all right
He knows of their fear in the forthcoming fight
Soon there'll be blood and many will die
Mothers and fathers back home they will cry
Sky pilot.....sky pilot
How high can you fly
You'll never, never, never reach the sky

He mumbles a prayer and it ends with a smile
The order is given
They move down the line
But he's still behind and he'll meditate
But it won't stop the bleeding or ease the hate
As the young men move out into the battle zone
He feels good, with God you're never alone
He feels tired and he lays on his bed
Hopes the men will find courage in the words that he said
Sky pilot.....sky Pilot
How high can you fly

You'll never, never, never reach the sky
You're soldiers of God you must understand
The fate of your country is in your young hands
May God give you strength
Do your job real well
If it all was worth it
Only time it will tell

In the morning they return
With tears in their eyes
The stench of death drifts up to the skies
A soldier so ill looks at the sky pilot
Remembers the words
"Thou shalt not kill"
Sky pilot.....sky pilot
How high can you fly
You never, never, never reach the sky

Quadrophenia - The Who
I'm trying to teach my daughter the finer points of the nuances between the Who and the Kinks - the Beatles and the Stones- and who liked who and why.

Who could pick a favorite off this record - not me - but The Real Me has to rank up there with 5:15, and I'm One, Dirty Jobs, etc, etc. ,etc. so:
The Real Me?
I went back to the doctor
To get another shrink.
I sit and tell him about my weekend,
But he never betrays what he thinks.

Can you see the real me, doctor?

I went back to my mother
I said, "I'm crazy ma, help me."
She said, "I know how it feels son,
'Cause it runs in the family."

Can you see the real me, mother?

The cracks between the paving stones
Look like rivers of flowing veins.
Strange people who know me
Peeping from behind every window pane.
The girl I used to love
Lives in this yellow house.
Yesterday she passed me by,
She doesn't want to know me now.

Can you see the real me, can you?

I ended up with the preacher,
Full of lies and hate,
I seemed to scare him a little
So he showed me to the golden gate.

Can you see the real me preacher?
Can you see the real me doctor?
Can you see the real me mother?
Can you see the real me?

5:15
Why should I care?
Why should I care?
Girls of fifteen
Sexually knowing
The ushers are sniffing
Eu-de-cologning
The seats are seductive
Celibate sitting
Pretty girls digging
Prettier women.

Magically bored
On a quiet street corner
Free frustration
In our minds and our toes
Quiet stormwater
My generation

Uppers and downers
Either way blood flows.

Inside outside. Leave me alone.
Inside outside. Nowhere is home.
Inside outside, Where have I been?
Out of my brain on the five fifteen.

On a raft in the quarry
Slowly sinking.
On the back of a lorry
Holy hitching.
Dreadfully sorry
Apple scrumping.
Born in the war
Birthday punching.

He man drag
In the glittering ballroom
Greyly outrageous
In my high heel shoes
Tightly undone
They know what they're showing
Sadly ecstatic
That their heros are news.

Why should I care?

I'm One
Every year is the same
And I feel it again,
I'm a loser - no chance to win.
Leaves start falling,
Come down is calling,
Loneliness starts sinking in.

But I'm one.
I am one.
And I can see
That this is me,
And I will be,
You'll all see
I'm the one.

Where do you get
Those blue blue jeans?
Faded patched secret so tight.
Where do you get
That walk oh so lean?
Your shoes and your shirts
All just right.
But I'm one etc.

I got a Gibson
Without a case
But I can't get that even tanned look on my face.
Ill fitting clothes
I blend in the crowd,
Fingers so clumsy
Voice too loud.
But I'm one.

Undertow, by Tool.

Should I also be annoying and post the lyrics to the whole album?

Me too- almost- if I had to pick only one.

I love the way Moon made his drums sound like a train clicking and clacking across the tracks. What a sad and useless waste of genius.

Slappy - I didn't post the whole album - it was a double. I could have added so many more songs you know....

I'm not singling you out.

And I wouldn't post some of the Tool lyrics, especially "Prison Sex." I'd probably get banned.

I used to really like the Tool videos. I can't remember the song, but there was one kind of claymation video that reminded me of Edgar Allen Poe's short story, The Tell Tale Heart.

It might have been off their first album - I know it was the first I had heard of them.

I have XM radio on my computer. I love channel 73, "Frank's Place". They have all the old Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Doris Day songs. It is blues and jazz, and they also play some of the newer singers, like Jane Monheit.

playing some old lp's of 'preservation hall jazzbands' :
amen , tiger rag , his eye on the sparrow ...
we bought the lp's at live performances of the band , starting in NYC in the mid 70's .
i'm glad i had some of the covers and programs signed by such great musicians as :
the humphrey brothers (percy and willie) , narvin kimball - he was in the 90's when we last heard him , james miller , and frank demond - he was considered 'a kid' when he joined them ; he was in his forties (and so was i once  ) .
those were the days !

i agree its a tough call.
i think my favorite song would have to be "Sea and Sand"...

~ ~ WARNING! LYRICS TO FOLLOW ~ ~

Here by the sea and sand
Nothing ever goes as planned,
I just couldn't face going home
It was just a drag on my own.
They finally threw me out
My mother got drunk on stout,
My dad couldn't stand on two feet,
As he lectured about morality.
Now I guess the families complete,
With me hanging round on the street
Or here on the beach.

The girl I love
Is a perfect dresser,
Wears every fashion
Gets it to the tee.
Heavens above,
I got to match her
She knows just how
She wants her man to be
Leave it to me.

My jacket's gonna be cut slim and checked
Maybe a touch of seersucker with an open neck
I ride a G S scooter with my hair cut neat
I wear my wartime coat in the wind and sleet.

I see her dancing
Across the ballroom
U V light making starshine
Of her smile.
I am the face,
She has to know me,
I'm dressed up better than anyone
Within a mile.

So how come the other tickets look much better?
Without a penny to spend they dress to the letter.
How come the girls come on oh so cool
Yet when you meet 'em, every one's a fool.

Come sleep on the beach
Keep within my reach
I just want to die with you near
I'm feeling so high with you here.
I'm wet and I'm cold
But thank God I ain't old
I should have split home at fifteen
Why didn't I ever say what I mean?
There's a story that the grass is so green,
What did I see?
Where have I been?

Nothing is planned, by the sea and the sand...

Been listening to the Tony Tribe version of "Red Red Wine" over and over.

And a lot of Daniel Johnston, having just seen the documentary, The Devil and Daniel Johnston. Fond of "You Put Me Out" and "Urge," from the first Songs of Pain anthology.
