Duke Ellington, recorded live in concert in Chicago, January 20, 1946.

Fantastic.

Duke played a very simple, melodic style of piano...it never was too far in front of the band..but on "In A Sentimental Mood" he really shines in his duet with Coltrane

just listened to about 2 1/2 hours of "hamburg harbour concert" (cd's courtesy of walter) .
it's the oldest continuing radio program in the world . it started in 1929 and is still going strong every sunday morning - over 75 years !
the cd's are a collection of the music being transmitted since 1929 !
(re-mastered , of course).
i remember that as kids we used to get up early on many sunday mornings , sitting in our nightshirts on the kitchen sofa to listen to the music and tall tales of the sailors !
thanks , walter !

Robert Plant - Big Log

My love is in league with the freeway
Its passion will ride, as the cities fly by
And the tail-lights dissolve, in the coming of night
And the questions in thousands take flight
