Listening to a Wax Trax compilation from the mid 90's, some great industrial and punk I had almost forgotten about. TKK, Front 242, 1000 Homo DJs, Acid Horse...

David Mallett -- April

on a compilation disc called "On A Winter's Night" It was compiled by Christine Lavin so it's a little folky and very listenable.

Are you a "fan" of Colin's, Shazzer?
I am!
I really like his solo/acoustic CDs

I'm just getting into him. I'm thinking of picking up his 'Going Somewhere' album. I had no idea he was a Men at Work fella until someone told me yesterday. He really knows how to write lyrics, eh?

Yes, I think so. Very Happy
I've grown very fond of the 2 CDs I have. They kind of grew & grew & grew on me!
Nothing like Men At Work, you'll agree, Shazzer.
Just spot on lyrics, an arresting voice, his guitar & absolutely minimal production. Perfect! And absolutely unpretentious. I like that.
Favourite CD - Peaks & Valleys.
Favourite song - Melbourne Song (No, not because I live in Melbourne. Laughing ) It's a wistful song about continually being drawn back to the person you love & the place where they live. He lived in Melbourne for years before the US.

Phil Hendrie show: From 2000: "Steve Bosell: Olive Garden Cowboy"

the two "Jennifer" 1968 Epic Records English-"folk-rock" hits that his in both UK and US..Donovan's "Jennifer Juniper" and The Hollies's "Jennifer Eccles" and Derek and the Dominoes GREAT ORIGINAL 1970 version of "Layla" (NOT the 1993 Clapton solo!)

These are thematically linked at I often do with my playlists..(Georghe Harrison's wife) Patti Boyd's family..she for the last and her sis Jenny for the above two. At least the Donovan one.

Steve - Haven't listened to it in a long time, but the piano piece at the end of the original Layla is one of my favorite pieces of music in terms of melody. I can remember standing outside the door of my big brother's room listening to it (he wouldn't let me actually come in), and as soon as I got some money of my own - that's the one of the first records I bought, and I listened to it over and over. I also loved Key to the Highway from that record - I was like nine or ten years old - but I already loved the blues.

What I love about the original Layla - beside the piano - is the anguish and passion in Clapton's voice. And then of course, when you know the story - you understand. The '93 version totally negates all that, I think. I can't listen to it. He sounds like a bored, complacent lounge singer- even the way he changes the timing on it trivializes and strips the emotion from the song.
