We don't get to see you around these parts too often Blatham.
I have Stan Getz with Cal Tjader on vibes; or it could be Red Norvo.

Charlie Parker & strings was panned but I love the sound.

Early Autumn - Woody Herman

(a bit out of season, but pleasant)

my 2 Cents "just friends" with bird & strings is classic, even the oboe solo by mitch miller. anyone know who played the piano solo on that one?

not me, it was the DJ i heard many years ago who was confused when he claimed Mitch Miller was on oboe. apparently, the oboeist in question was one Edwin C. Brown according to the verve records web site.

Buffy Ste. Marie singing Universal Soldier

sometimes a song just comes back to whack you up the backside of the head

He's 5 foot 2 and he's 6 feet 4
He fights with missiles and with spears
He's all of 31 and he's only 17
He's been a soldier for a thousand years

He's a Catholic, a Hindu, an athiest, a Jain
A Buddhist, a Baptist and a Jew
He knows he shouldn't kill but he knows he always will
Kill you, my friend, for me and me for you

He's fighting for Canada, he's fighting for France
He's fighting for the U.S.A.
He's fighting for the Russians and he's fighting for Japan
And he thinks he'll put an end to war that way

He's fighting for democracy, he's fighting for the Reds
He says it's for the peace of all
He's the one who must decide who's to live and who's to die
And he never sees the writing on the wall

But without him how could Hitler have condemned them at Dachau
Without him Caesar would have stood alone
He's the one who gives his body as the weapon of the war
And without him all this killing can't go on

Yes, he's the universal soldier and he really is to blame
His orders come from far away no more
They come from him and you and me and, brother, can't you see
This is not the way we put an end to war
