Pino,
He could be Muslim or he could be associated with another earlier manifestation of Satan. Do a search on his/her name. You'll get reference to Jose Rizal. Here is an excerpt from an article about Rizal.

A precursor to Gandhi in his advocacy of Asian nationalism, Dr. Jose Rizal y Alonso, born in 1861, became a hero of modern Third World nationhood when he denounced the violence of Spanish colonialism in his novels Noli Me Tangere (1887) and El Filibusterismo (1891). For doing so, he was shot by a Spanish firing squad in 1896 at the age of 35. Together with Rizal's speeches and articles, the two novels are often credited with sparking the Philippine Revolution, which began two years after his death, in 1898, only to be cut short by the intervention of the United States, engaged at that time in its own war with Spain.
Another reference to Imuthis is at:

Here is an excerpt.
Mr. Leeds meets the group of twelve, and allows them to inspect the tent and equipment used to display the Sphinx. He makes fun of the skeptical Ben Zayb, because Ben Zayb was unable to find the hidden mirrors. Mr. Leeds brings the ashes to life by shouting "Deremof!", which is probably an anagram of the word Freedom.
(Rizal is so Pinoy if he indeed made use of this form of wordplay.)
Imuthis, the Sphinx, comes to life and narrates his lifestory. His life is similar to that of Ibarra:
Both studied abroad.
Both got into trouble with the religious orders.
Both had a foe who was a priest, who was in love with their girlfriend.
Both had a girlfriend who was the daughter of a priest.
Both "died" in a lake.
Both their girlfriends were raped in a temple/convent by their enemy priest.
Both returned to their country to seek revenge/justice.
Both returned under a different identity: Imuthis became "The Sphinx" while Ibarra became "Simoun".
Padre Salvi quickly saw the parallelism. He felt alluded to when the sphinx called him a murderer. Perhaps it was Simoun's voice?
It seems this person is also confused about being a mixture of Egyptian and Asian; Spanish Catholic and Islamic.
Perhaps he/she hates the Catholic church as a tool of the Spanish oppressors because he/she has adopted the Phillipine communist ideals.
