I am waiting to hear the large sucking sound of the US pulling their forces, equipment and all out of Europe. It will cost many Euro's to fill the vacuum.

Certainly only in Germany, where the US Army Europe , although reduced from its Cold War heights, still totals 42,000 troops and 785 tanks. Additionally, there is a US Air Force contingent of about 15,000 service people with bases at Bitburg, Frankfurt-am-Main and neighbouring Ramstein (60 F-16 fighter-bombers and a squadron of A-10 tank-buster aircraft).

Walter,

It is interesting to note that the U.S. Defense department is currently taking bids for contracts for the accelerated environmental cleanup of the smaller bases and logistical depots in Germany - an event that usually proceeds their closure.

Nato was created only half to protect against the big bear, the other half to maintain unification against it. Not quite the same thing. It is high time we align ourselves more closely with the Bear. Without a Russian threat, quite frankly, there is no threat. Our own military is far more potent then every member of the EU combined. So is our Economy. This can be verified at the link below, just in case there is any doubt. http://www.odci.gov/cia/publications/factbook/index.html
Once buddied up with Russia there is no need for NATO or the UN. We shore the Russian Nuclear crisis ($) and allow our business to mingle more freely with theres. As the worlds only true superpowers unite they create a magnetic effect that draws most every other country into the fold rather quickly, to attain the heightened trade status, and absolute security. In exchange they abide by certain human rights standards that no civilized country would object to anyway. Attacking would be suicide, so why continue to suffer just to hold on to the rights of beating your women? You can surely see where I'm going with this... Nato and the UN are dinosaurs holding us back from what we all truly desire... peace. When the 2 toughest guys on the block unite, a meer flexing of the muscles sends tremors through the world. Ah, shoot... I'm dreaming again. Yes, exit Nato

Which certainly goes in line with the fact that the German forces are closing some hundred small depots and bases as well next years.
