Rainsoft gold series

We are renting our home & it came with this water treatment system.Everything has been working properly until the last few days.We have a very strong taste of salt in our water.I opened the tank where we put the salt in & noticed it has a fair amount of water also in there.Not sure if it should?Any ideas of what might be causing this please let me know.Bottle water can get expense after buying several a day:) Thanks
