Moving to Oz

Hi. Looks like we are moving to Oz for 12 months - 18months as initial contract. We are looking for a good family environment with a good school for my 11 year old son. Need to be Abbortsford/Kew/Richmond area for work. Any advise for areas to look for renting that offer a good school, good social activities (especially daytime) for me, as I will not be working but would like to study a course part time and do arty things (drawing, theatre etc) whilst we are there. Would love to hear from anyone who can help/advise. CP

I have been watching this question, would love to help, but am in Sydney, and have spent about a total of 3 weeks in Melbourne in my whole life. Anyways, be assured, Melbourne is REALLY NICE, and some people even say it is nearly as nice as Sydney. From what I recall, Richmond itself seems a pretty OK area. But Melb on the whole has a reputation for having more general cultural activites and so on than Sydney. So I reckon you'll love it. And good luck.
