@failures art,
I love the planning stage...
this is all sounding very good.
@failures art,
Sounds very interesting.
I suppose that the driving time is considered to be the minimum - though you could do it, perhaps even a bit faster: at night.

(Amsterdam > Brussels sounds okay.

@failures art,
Don't forget jet lag. Get plenty of sleep before hand - an extra hour or two because you are moving eastward so you lose hours.
I'm with Bethie...Copenhagen is great - I've been there briefly twice. I'd put it first on my list, too.
The Danes see themselves as the cowboys of Europe - and every contact I've had with them has been good. It's a lovely city, really lively; most people speak some English (not to sure about your linguistic abilities).
Vienna I loved - but totally different - Much more staid, refined, subdued, but still interesting.
London? Yes - Barcelona? Big yes.
Italy - anywhere.
France - pretty much anywhere.
Money?
I hit England on 17th September.

I'd so love to meet you...but we'll be in the UK when you aren't and all.
Don't worry. One day I'll venture off to the bunny island in the southern hemisphere.
Poisonous bunnies, I hear.

'taint the poisonous bunnies yu have to worry about...or not very much....
Vienna? Budapest? Bratislava?
Currently in Berlin. I have a great host. Vegan options have been not too difficult to find so far, but certainly not as accessible as in the USA. Berlin has lots of motorcylces, and driving here feels very familiar (although street signs are smaller). Well, less typing, more adventure.
More updates to come!

@failures art,
Enjoy your time there and here in Europe! (Hopefully, the weather soon will be a lot better!)
Berlin was lots of fun. Today I did Checkpoint Charlie, The Topogrpahie des Terrors, and Brandenburg Tors. It rained a lot, but just drizzle. Tomorrow, I'm off to Amsterdam. I was unsuccessful at acquiring a couch host, so I booked a hostel in the city center. It's right on one of the canals (doesn't say much since they are everywhere), and there is good vegan options in walking distance. I'm excited.
Ready..... Jett!

@failures art,
I've been to all of them except Nantes, but I think you need to add Prague to your list. I'd include Athens, Barcelona and Vienna on your itinerary. They are all different with their individual ambiance, character, and places to see - while mixing with the crowd.
@failures art,
I'm excited about your going to Amsterdam too.. it's on my own wish list.
@failures art,
fa, Did you do the tv tower? How about all those museums next to the river? Try Sony Center if you have the time, and visit the movie museum.
@ossobuco,
I used to read the police procedural novels of Janwillem van de Wetering.
uh oh, I don't remember this one, which will have to go on my book wish list -
