The other way around, I suppose

Quote:
The seven continent model is taught in the United States, while the six continent (combined Eurasia) model is also taught in North America. The five continent (combined Americas, no Antartica) model is commonly taught in Europe and South America including United Kingdom and Mexico. The continents of the "five continents" model (as shown by the five Olympic Games flag rings) are speculated to be the five permamently populated continents (viewing Antarctica as only temporarily populated, and all the Americas as one).

Okay ... just to clarify: The correct continent is North America (and for purposes of this thread, let's just say that means north of the Panama Canal.

Okay, guys, quit shrinking the number of continents. I made it to Antarctica for my seventh, and I don't want that changed by some web discussion groups. LOL

Back again!
We haven't found the waterfalls yet?

cicerone, only in the US they teach about 7 continents,
everywhere else there are only 5; thus the 5 rings of
the Olympics (as Walter already mentioned). Alas, not everything they teach in the US must be true Wink

I agree with CJ. (1)Africa;(2)America (N. and S. America are not separate continents; they're Siamese twins, joined by Mesoamerica);(3)Antarctica;(4)Australia;(5)Eurasia (geographically speaking, it's silly to call Europe a separate continent from Asia). All other inhabited places, including Greenland and New Zealand, are just islands.

A continent is a land mass, so of course north and south america are different continents.
