The Auguststrasse has really changed though ... first time I found Strandbad Mitte, the street was still a modest, neglected typical East-Berlin street, on the edge of downtown ... quiet, quaint and pretty despite/thanks to the peeling paint on the facades ... and that was already in the mid-90s.
Now, the Augustrasse is close to the heart of Trendy Berlin, with a skilled if strikingly vain proprietor running a Vietnamese restaurant around the corner, a delicious man's fashion store with daring clothing just above what I can afford down the street, and a through-way to a wholly renovated courtyard with a hairdresser and handbag store leading on to the Oranienburgerstrasse ...
I still like it, but it's .. different.

I've been to MV twice, during weekend breaks, while I'v attended courses in Hamburg.
I'll go to Ahlbeck for some days next year, when it is sunny
and really cold, I think.
