Need a second opinion on this one. I think I know the answer but not sure.
Could have multiple answers.
What I am you have already got,
You will never really have me,
Yet you will often give me up.
What am I?
Neither of those is what I was thinking. You don't really "often give up" the answer and only a true pessimist would say you can "never really have" hope. I think you've both got the right idea though.

The answer is definity a Riddle cause i have done this one before. Hope this helps to confirm your answer
as for riddler, its the other way round, you dont give up your soul when you die, you give up your body
