I usually hate these "what's the best ever..." questions, but I think it's either the Stones or Zeppelin, depending on how you look at it. Raw talent, incredible music, and influence, Zeppelin(which is my personal favorite).
Stones have the catalogue, the live performances, longetivity.
Led Zep for me, I like most of their stuff. Other bands I'm more selective with. The Who have a good portfolio, as do Queen. Springsteen with the E Street Band, the earlier Stones material. Plenty of other good bands, with standout songs, that I dip into.
i'm actually surprised no-one's put this, so for the sake of completeness...
pink floyd
also, king crimson, genesis (with peter gabriel), some other bands...the who're cool...cream...
This thread reminds me that I usually don't pick a favorite band. . . there are simply too many of them to pick only one. . .
The Doors, The Stone Roses, (James Brown and) The JB's, Orbital and Bentley Rhythm Ace.
Finally!! Someone else with an appreciation for the hardest workin' band of the hardest workin' man in show business.
(assuming it was aimed at my post) Eoe: I didn't believe it when I heard he used to fine them for coming in late (being out of time) during songs or hitting duff notes during shows & rehearsals. Then I listened really carefully to a selection of tracks, and it all made sense. There is not one single note in the wrong place.
I also believe (correct me if I'm wrong please) that Jimi Hendrix, Little Richard and Bootsy Collins (Parliament & Funkadelic) were all members of the JB's at one time or another.
Genius.
Not sure about Little Richard. I think he's been around a little longer than Godfather and Hendrix was a member of Little Richard's band in the early 60's. Don't think he was with the JB's. Bootsy was indeed a member of the JB's.
The Godfather ran a very, very tight ship. I saw his revue twice and he had to keep a tight leash on things with a band of that size. There must have been over twenty people onstage at one time.
Could've sworn slap would have wieghed in with NKOTB. Ah, well.
For my money, you can't beat the Partridge Family.
Yes, Black Sabbath, Zep, AC/Dc
That's as narrowed down as I can get.
PS Not the best, but way up there, the reformed all original Judas Priest tours in 2004. I can't wait!!!!!!
The Ramones. Hey, ho, let's go...
we're in all the magazines
gulping down thorazines....
Well, they may not have been the best, but they sure were the tightest!
Either them or Doctor and the Medics
(Goin up, to the spirit in the sky ...)
I've got a test for you, D'Art: you like the Ramones -- how do you feel about the Clash?
It always seems to me that no one really likes both...
I like both!
So there you go.
I like The Clash better, though.
But not as much as The Kelly Family <giggles>
No comparison in my book. Clash has 'em over a -- barrel just seems like a stupid word. London Calling may end up being the one album I always have around...
