You do not know that and it may well be false. Someone with phenylketonuria will never have clinical manifestations if they don't consume aspartame. Someone with sickle trait many never clinically manifest if they don't go to high altitude. Etc.

ADHD always manifests itself when an individual's natural and sometimes excessive energy levels are restricted, confined or contained. Burning off the excess energy in a safe exercising manor will resolve itself with the result of a stronger, healthier, more positive and happy individual. Our children need science to get out of the way and let them simply play in a most beneficial way.

ADHD is not strictly limited to children. I never goes away, though the symptoms of hyperactivity may become less apparent with age.
The Attention Deficiency part will never go away and will continue to haunt the adult.
On top of that there are also variants where no apparent hyperactivity is ever present in the first place. That is called primarily inattentive ADD. The exact relation between these two variants has however yet to be determined.

I do agree with the reasoning that there seems to be an over eagerness to apply medical solutions to the problem, especially in children.
But ADHD is a genuine problem and can absolutely cause real learning disadvantages in children. It is still one of the most underestimated disorders. And sometimes medication is unavoidable.

There is only one other solution: and that is to totally reform the whole society so that it is more ADD friendly. Present day society is far too rigid and regimented for the ADD mind.

Recent surveys have shown that within a single African tribe, those with ADD functioned better than non-ADDers while in a hunter/gatherer setting while the reverse was true in an agricultural setting.

But I somehow doubt that reforming society will be the chosen solution.
