(CBS/AP) An Army Black Hawk helicopter crashed Friday -- apparently shot down by insurgents -- killing all six U.S. soldiers aboard and capping the bloodiest seven days in Iraq for Americans since the fall of Baghdad.
In retaliation, American troops backed by Bradley fighting vehicles swept through Iraqi neighborhoods before dawn Saturday, blasting houses suspected of being insurgent hideouts with machine guns and heavy weapons fire.
"This is to remind the town that we have teeth and claws and we will use them," said Lt. Col. Steven Russell, commander of the 1st Battalion, 22nd Infantry Regiment.
In addition the US is presently bombing the area where the helicopters were shot down.
Is this Iraq or Gaza? US armed forces or Israeli armed forces?
Will this tactic be effective or enlist more Iraqi's to commit acts of terror?
BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- U.S. forces Saturday were attacking anti-coalition sites near Saddam Hussein's hometown of Tikrit, where six U.S. soldiers were killed when a Black Hawk helicopter went down Friday, coalition officials said.
In what coalition officials called a "show of force," two F-16s fighter planes flew low over the marshy area and dropped at least two 500-pound bombs near the crash site north of Baghdad. Coalition forces fired dozens of artillery shells, mortars and howitzers into the area, starting late Friday and continuing early Saturday.
Well, if we make them afraid to even breathe without permission, they won't resist, right? Ahhh...isn't democracy wonderful?
Too bad that Hussein fellow dissapeared, he seems to be just the sort of chap to enforce the wishes of the US!
