@lovejoy,
America is a great country in one respect for all religions. Freedom of religion. Let em build. His rhetoric is sad.
And who is to know the future of the worshippers? They may be peaceful and give much to the Islamic community.

@lovejoy,
Annoyed by WHICH proposition ?

The speaker has a lot of good points.

Go ahead and call me paranoid, but I wonder how much we r harming ourselves (9/11/1)
by allowing Moslems to immigrate here.

@contrex,
Like, for example, a man of your wisdom knows that the Moslems are too sweet
to ever NUKE us, if thay had the chance,
and Ladden never woud have done such a thing to us on 9/11/1.

David, I think you may have misunderstood, my title question was sarcastic at the very thought of a mosque being built on the site of such an atrocity by islamic terrorists.

Any American not outraged at the very suggestion of erecting a mosque on this site is either muslim or plain stupid

There is a church in Oklahoma city. I never thought anything of it until now.

@ebrown p,

Yes, and to do it on the 10th Anniversary of 9/11/1.

I will take it a step further:
the timid little replacement for the World Trade Center
is a testament to the cowardice of Americans and of my fellow citizens of NY.
(Thay shoud put a brass plaque on it, naming it the ATTA Building or the LADEN Building.)

We shoud have RE-BUILT the World Trade Center, in defiance.

As the situation stands,
the Moslems WILL have the final word on whether we can have
tall buildings in NY or not. We have not dared to oppose their will.
We have not dared to undo their handiwork of 9/11/1.

Thay will get a good laff out of THAT,
tho a BETTER laff about their mosque effectively standing on the site of the fallen WTC.

@OmSigDAVID,
I can see it both ways. I do think a lot of what he said is true, not against all who practice Islam, but certainly about those who practice Islam who were complicit or in agreement with the destruction carried out by them in New York, London, Madrid, and Mumbai, etc...

But in a way, wouldn't it be such a testament to the values that America was built on to allow the mosque to be built there?

In other words, Osama bin Laden and his ilk would have to be confronted with the fact that they were unable to overcome or overpower that wonderful spirit and acceptance of strength in diversity which has always been America's greatest strength.

The Islamists who hate America might look at it as their victory, but really it'd be a victory for the belief in and continuation of diversity.

Sort of a turn the other cheek move.

By the way, was anyone offended when this Brit kept calling the US 'America'?

@OmSigDAVID,
And WE want to build a mosque. The people building this mosque are American. Presumably this British idiot is not an American.

Why this foreigner thinks he can tell us Americans what we can or can't build in our own country is beyond me.

given the nature of the events involved, i think the any thing even remotely involved with an organized religion belongs on the site

if a visitor wants to say a prayer on site that's their business, but a chapel, mosque, synagogue, buddhist temple or pagan circle of stones has no place in a public memorial
