I know you're not. I was quoting from a song by Donovan Leitch, who sang Mellow Yellow, Sunshine Superman, etc. Just remembered that song and posted a few words. No offence intended.
edgar, you dear man. Didn't I once tell you that no one could offend me unless they intended to? Smiling a little. I'm the same as you. Always wondering if I've said the wrong thing.
Aw, I always jump to conclusions. Then I have to wonder if I have gone too far. Then I have to have these awkward explanations. Then I need a drink. Then I get myself a handful of carrots and juice up a hearty glass-full. Then I say: I'm a man. Then I go see what's new on Abuzz for a while.
Some gotta win
Some gotta lose
Good time Charley
Got the blues
Moses saw the future tense
Said Ya'll can move your tents
As for me I'm not gonna go
As for you my people gotta grow
"The soul is dyed the color of its thoughts.
Think only on those things that are in line with your principles and can bear the light of day.
The content of your character is your choice.
Day by day, what you do is who you become."
Heraclitus 535-475 BC (approximately), Philosopher and Author
Good reference, Husker
Heraclitus is a latinate name, Herakles is as close to the Greek spelling as you will get in the roman alphabet. The Heraklids were an ancient clan, and another Herakles was their legendary ancestor (Hercules--Heraclitus was a latinate version to distinguish the known man from the legendary demi-god). Herakles had much wisdom to give us, and i am gratified to see that you know of him as well. My favorite quote of his is:
No man ever crosses the same river twice, for the river changes, and so does the man.

I guess that's about as deep and wide and you wanna make it!
I do believe that it was the Durants (Will being known as the gentle philosopher) who cited history as being a profile of human character.
Today is the anniversary of FDR's unprecedented reelection to a fourth term. My dad admired Roosevelt, and followed his decisions with applause. I considered Daddy to be a philosopher unfamous. His sense of humor saved me from many a bumble and fumble. He was very kind to my grandmother who was forever trying to save him. <smile>
When I visited my cousin in Richmond, and we bought young boy friends to the house, Ganny, as we called her, would always ask them what church they went to. Regardless of their reply. she would always say. "Well, I've heard some very fine sermons preached by (insert denomination here) but the Baptists stick closest to the Bible. As a kid, I never understood what that meant.
Letty
You do (k)now right
Sounds like your Dad was a fellow really worth knowing and being the daughter of. Good job of bringing you up I might add.
Well, thank you, Husker. I think that I was quite a surprise to my parents. They hadn't planned on me at all. My sister was a sorta built in baby sitter. As my sister went, so went Letty.
I gave my love a chicken that had no bone
Now a chicken when it's rubber it has no bone.....
Edgar, what in the world?
I know that song, incidentally.
I don't know how I do it -
I gave my love a cherry without a stone,
I gave my love a chicken that had no bone,
I told my love a story without an end.
I gave my love a baby with no cryin'
A cherry when it's blooming it has no stone.
A chicken when it's pippin' it has no bone.
The story that I love you, it has no end.
A baby when it's sleepin' has no cryin'
That's called The Riddle Song, I think.
And that's how I did it.
I was thinking about clown-like people and the rubber chickens they carry around.
Ah, edgar. I think it's clearer now.
I Can See Clearly Now
Johnny Nash
I can see clearly now, the rain is gone
I can see all obstacles in my way
Gone are the dark clouds that had me blind
It's gonna be a bright (bright), bright (bright)
Sun shiny day
I think I can make it now, the pain is gone
All of the bad feelings have disappeared
Here is the rainbow I've been prayin' for
It's gonna be a bright (bright), bright (bright)
Sun shiny day
Look all around, there's nothin' but blue skies
Look straight ahead, nothin' but blue skies
I can see clearly now, the rain is gone
I can see all obstacles in my way
Gone are the dark clouds that had me blind
It's gonna be a bright (bright), bright (bright)
Sun shiny day
...and so it is, here in Florida

They say everything can be replaced.
That every distance is not near.
So I remember every face
of every man who put me here.
They say every woman needs protection,
then they turn around and tell you
every woman's got to fall.
I swear I see my own reflection
somewhere far beyond this wall.
I see my light come shining
from the west down to the east.
Any day now, any day now,
I shall be released.
Now yonder stands
there in that lonely crowd,
a man who swears he is not to blame, no, no.
And if you ask him has he ever seen this lonely woman,
he'll tell you, "No, no, no."
What's more, he does not know my name!
But I see my light come shining,
shining, shining, shining from the west
straight on down to the east.
Ah-anyday now, any, any old day now,
I am going to, I am going to be released, yeah!
They tell ya, tell ya every woman,
they tell ya every woman
got to have protection,
then they turn around and tell ya,
"No! We gotta make that-a woman fall!"
Oh, god, I swear! I swear I see,
I see my, my very own reflection
far and away beyond, way, way beyond
these old walls!
That's right! I see, I see my light, my light,
my light is shining, shining, shining,
shining, shining, shining, shining
from the west straight on down to the east.
And any day now, do you hear me?
Any day now, I shall be,
I am going to be released!
Any day now, any day now, any day now,
any, any day now, oh, any day now,
any day, any day, any day,
any day, any day, any day,
woah, any day, any day, any old day now,
yeah, any day now
I am going to, I shall be released!
Woah, any day now, I shall see again!
Any day now, I shall be free again!
Any day now, they'll let me be again!
Oh, any day now, any day now, any day now,
whoa, help me, any day, any day,
any old day now . . .
