Water Softener (Santa Clarita, CA)

The city of Santa Clarita recently asked that we dispose of our (Sears) salt(pellet)-type water softener, and so we did. Now we have zero water softening. Can you list sources for water softening devices besides the monthly-style drop tanks. Thank you for any information you may provide. Best regards, OneJimBob.
