Was anyone a fan of Murray? She was a British anthropologist and Egyptologist who was born in India in 1863 and lived for a century. Her work on Egyptian matters is supposed to be impeccable. However, her more popular work, on witchcraft, has been demonstrated to have been based on evidence that was slight to begin with and was manipulated by Murray to suit her own theories.
Despite the fact that many folklorists of the time did not accept Murray's books on what she called the horned god, she was president of the British Folklore Society.
The publication of her books inspired the foundation of covens in the 1930s and led to the founding of the modern Wicca religion.
Any Wiccans here on A2K?
