Gruesome fairytales/fabes/folklore

Hi everyone,

I'm working on an opera with a friend and we want a gruesome but also cute and kitch fable of some description to commission a libretto for. We've got a list of stuff we like, but we need to think of something that hasn't been done before.
rumpelstiltskin, punch and judy (has been done), Struwwelpeter, aesop's fables...
The other possibility we were looking at is a topical media story, Charlie Sheen or some other urban fable... even something ridiculous from Love It magazine would be good.
So if anyone else knows of any other arcane fairy tales, or celebrity topics and would like to list them, that would be great.
