I now have in my band a Jew, a Roman Catholic, a Greek Orthodox, a Southern Baptist and me who believes in God and is compeltely unsure and uninterested in all but an academic way of the details.

the only thing I've observed by being involved in such an ecumenical group is that I'm not sure if all religions are equally well meaning or equally ridiculous.

@Thomas,
Quote:
1) There is a god called Jahwe.
Incorrect. You mean YHWH.
Quote:
2) There is a Chosen People championed by Jahwe by virtue of their hooked noses and curly hair.
In correct. It was by way of their hairy noses and curly hooks.
Quote:
3) Being championed by Jahwe by virtue of ones hooked noses and curly hair gives an exclusive understanding of absolute truth (as grasped by the Tora, the Talmud, plastic surgery, and hair styling).
In correct. An exclusive understanding of absolute truth is gained from reading my posts.
Quote:
4) People who don't accept this truth are inferior.
Correct.

Well I give you 25% for that, and only because one of my faults is I am a hell-of-a-nice-guy. You are really going to have to improve if you expect to pass.

I keep forgetting how much I like matzoh crackers until Passover rolls around every year.

I got a box and thoroughly enjoyed eating them with peanut butter, bananas and blueberries sprinkled on them.

Last week I got a couple more boxes and my boss asked me if I was "going kosher" Rolling Eyes

Then she asked me if I knew why they were selling matzohs at the store.

Stupidly thinking it was a serious question, I answered "yeah, because this is unleavened bread, and it was Passover the other week."

Oh foolish me.

She: No, I'm asking if you know why they're selling those at THAT store.

Me: Because a lot of Jews live in this area, and it was Passover the other week.

She: No, that's not it....What's around here Chai? (ok, I realize I'm about to get a fractured fairy tale from a Southern Baptist, so I sit back to enjoy the ride)

Me: What's around here?........um.......Jews?

She: No......what's just around the corner from here?

Me: (warming to the subject) You mean between Kvetch and Oy Gevalt streets?

She: Yes!

Me: The A Bi Gezunt Jewish Community Center.

She: Yes!

Me: I think the Jews were here foist.

I then offered her a nice cracker, but she refused.

There is a "popular Gentile culture." Or, more correctly, a northern popular Gentile culture, and an overlapping (like Venn diagrams) southern popular Gentile culture. I defer to your historical knowledge; please defer to my knowledge of sociology.

And, the popular Gentile culture is full of anti-Semitic beliefs, since it does believe that Jews (aka, Jewish people) are inherently different than nice Gentiles, aside from not celebrating Christmas. You must be well aware of all the stereotypical beliefs going back to one's school days: Jews try harder for high marks; Jewish guys do not like to fight, even when they know how; Jews are clannish (as though Gentiles are not); and on and on and on.

The stereotype of Jews complaining (loudly) is very common in some of those areas where Jews and Gentiles do co-exist. It is not just complaining that is the stereotype, but the adding in that "a lot of money was paid" for whatever, so the umbrage is even greater. I think these stereotypes are mocked by some Gentiles, since I am sure you know that in some of those areas where Jews and Gentiles do co-exist there are some Gentiles that do not want to admit that many Jews have surpassed them in the race to assimilation into middle class (aka, lace) living, with all its benefits for one's family. Mocking assuages one's unconscious feelings of inferiority. Remember, in Europe, many people's families never had to compete with Jews, and that could be in the not too distant past.

I have never known one Jew to mock anything about the Gentile culture/religion? Jews either assimilate into a facet of the general culture, or ignore it, but never mock it. Sort of like the old NYC neighborhoods where Jews and Irish were adjacent, but rarely interacted.

@Foofie,
I never seen any "contribution" from you at this site which would lead me to defer to your "knowledge" of anything. By the way, lamebrain, this thread is satire, it's object is humor, not your paranoid and unsubstantiated drivel.

Shiksa just means Gentile female. It is not said mockingly, as I have heard it, but just descriptively, to connote a female that is not Jewish.

yeah right.

The word shiksa is etymologically partly derived from the Hebrew term sheketz, which means "abomination", "impure," or "object of loathing", depending on the translator.

Sure big guy; satire at the expense of no one on the thread, other than myself who is Jewish. Perhaps, a little self-deprecating humor could be considered satire, like when you talk about sammiches. However, this thread is just plain mocking, in my opinion, if one is not a Gentile worth his/her golf clubs. I do not accept the claim that this is in response to the Atheist/atheist thread, since the opposite of atheist is deist, or in the case of the author of this thread, Christian/Gentile, and certainly not Jewish.

But, there are older German nationals that say that if it wasn't for the Jews, so many nation's peoples would like Germany and Germans. Now that is real humor, even though it relates to a degree of denial that may be sociopathic.

Youse guys always seem to have an excuse for poor behavior, I believe.

Well, I never heard it said with that connotation. Words lose their original meanings. Like "schmuck" is the male organ in Yiddish; however, it means dummy, as usually used.

You knew that when you joined the thread, so what are you complaining about?

It's a response to, and a parody of, the poor logic used by the initiator of the atheist/Atheist thread. You can easily verify this by comparing the initial posts of both. But of course, if you choose to take offense on behalf of yourself and your faith, that's your choice. Far be it from me to interfere with it.
