Josh Hamilton..free-agent...lefty...hits over 300...5x all-star...hits HR and RBIs. He's the juiciest of free agents, but Rangers are hot about keeping him.
He does seem to have dealt with his demons, for the most part. I'd like to see RS take a flyer on him. I am a bit concerned about how he handles the Boston pressure-cooker, however.

@Region Philbis,
Shane Victorino, the 32 yr old switch-hitting outfielder, Flyin'Hawaiian, looks to be a Red Sawxer this year. Whispers are that he will sign for a 3-year deal for $38M, pending his physical.
gomes will play a lot in LF.
doubt cody would be happy platooning...
heard a youk-to-NYY rumor today.
can't see that happening... he'd have to lose the trademark goatee!

cafardo wrote a nice piece in today's globe on the changing face of the red sawx.
victorino is slated for RF, but may shift to CF if ells is traded for an SP (such as cliff lee)...
Mercy! I think Boras hurts as many clients as he helps.
I'd be sad to see Ellsbury go. He always adds the right sort of excitement and instant offense to a lineup that is short of effective base-stealers.

something's cooking...
Quote:
Red Sox general manager Ben Cherington met briefly with Boston-area media
before heading to the airport Thursday morning.
“Last night we were working on a couple of things, but nothing ready to announce.
We made progress on one thing, but it’s not quite teed up yet. Can’t say (if it was a
signing or trade).’’
He did say the proposed acquisition did not involve a player previously
reported on in the media, so stay tuned on that one.
Looks to me like another 37-year-old with some injury issues, though he has some excellent (K/W ratio off the charts) stats and performed well last year.

@Region Philbis,
oh boy..here we go:
Yankees General Manager Brian Cashman defended a lack of spending as the Yankees made an $12 million contract offer to Kevin Youkilis, the former Red Sox third baseman.
Yeah, agreed. Considering what new management (relatively good investments overall ...excluding the 3 or so yrs) have done with RS and what Yanks have done. Yanks have had unlimited $$$ available. RS have $$ but often are (theoretically) selective.
