@Region Philbis,
This is truly a sad for Red Sawx Nation. May he RIP.

Almost without precedent in pro sports, devoted 61 years of his life to the Red Sox organization. No one loved the Red Sox more than he did.

Dodgers, Red Sox near blockbuster

The Dodgers and Red Sox are closing in on a deal that would send Adrian Gonzalez, Josh Beckett,
Carl Crawford and Nick Punto
to Los Angeles, though a few hurdles remain before it's official,
multiple baseball sources said Friday.

Pitcher Rubby De La Rosa will be headed back to Boston as the centerpiece of the deal, sources
say. De La Rosa made his first major league appearance of the season Wednesday, having had
Tommy John surgery about 13 months ago. Also included are first baseman James Loney and
prospects Ivan De Jesus (infielder) and Jerry Sands (outfielder), according to sources, plus
another top prospect that is still unknown.

The Dodgers optioned De La Rosa to Triple-A Albuquerque Friday afternoon. Gonzalez was scratched
prior to Friday's game and summoned to the clubhouse, along with Punto. Loney was a scratch as well,
and was called to manager Don Mattingly's office.

González and Loney are out of their respective line-ups.

A shame, I tell you.

All is Bobby Valentine's fault!

@fbaezer,

in fairness to bobby V, he was thrown into an impossible situation.
hell, cherington didn't want him, but was forced to take him.
the coaching staff has been divided all year.
more importantly, the bitter taste of last year's collapse carried over, as did the lethargic play.

i'm glad they're finally busting up this squad.
beckett has 10-5 rights, so hopefully he doesn't veto the trade...

@Rockhead,

we had a chuckle over the name Francisley Bueno.
the opposing pitcher at the time was Pedro Beato.
not exactly household names...

@Region Philbis,
not to mention Wil Smith starting for the blue team.

I wonder if DJ Jazzy Jeff is still around somewhere?

@Region Philbis,
I imagine Pedro Beato was a very common name in Spain and Portugal during the Middle Ages. Weird last name, almost as weird, but not that ugly, as Bastardo.

Cubans lead Latin America in the loss of rational names. I wouldn't be surprised if I found out poor Francisley Bueno got his name from Francis Lai, the French composer of the Love Story theme.
