@Region Philbis,
Of course, we have to keep in mind for most of the game that Sawx hitters were facing Verlander, the winner of the CY Young AND the MVP of the league. They also did cause Valverde, to blow the save, too. (Not sure how the scoring works when Valverde gets the win and also a blown save?)

Sadly, so did they (blow a save).

@Ragman,
Is Beckett still up to pitch on Saturday? I can't tell.
Not that I'll be able to see the game either.

Joe(I live in NYC where the only news about Sox is if there is a sale on them at Macy's and they apologize for the miss-spelling.)Nation

@Joe Nation,
It's unclear (to me) as the last report from 3 days ago was he has a 'minor' thumb problem.

"Josh Beckett ‘dumbfounded’ by attention over nagging thumb injury."

...even though he has sought multiple opinions this week from specialists in San Antonio and Cleveland.

"“Everything’s fine,” said Beckett, who remains scheduled to start Saturday against the Tigers and hasn’t been informed of any restrictive pitch count or innings limit."

“ .. it’s something I’ve been dealing with for 18 months.” The right-hander informed the Red Sox of the problem during the offseason and has received two cortisone shots, one during the winter and another within two or three weeks. He may require additional injections throughout the season, and it’s possible he eventually may undergo surgery, although he indicated it wouldn’t happen until at least after the season.

@Region Philbis,
Cool. I'm planning on seeing Sawx-Rays play down here in TB-area when they come down this-a-way. I haven't yet seen a game at that stadium in the 2 yrs since I've moved here.

Checking in with the Red Sawx nation...

It was evident to all that Beckett's sore thumb is causing his curve ball to float like a tasty lollypop over the plate.
7 runs 7 hits 4 2/3 innings.
Josh better make an appointment now.

@panzade,
After watching that game I am weeping in my bee-ah.

Say it ain't so, Josh! 'Ya thinks he's still dumbfounded at the all the attention fans pay to his ailing thumb?

@jespah,
Is it possible after all these years that he doesn't understand the type of scrutiny by the media and fannies that any pro athlete gets in Beantown? (Especially so with one that gets the big $$$).

@Ragman,
Quote:
Beckett said the thumb wasn't an issue.

"Too many pitches in the middle of the plate. They hit a changeup, a cutter, two sinkers and a fastball,
and every one was down the middle of the plate," he said. "Everything I threw hard went down the middle,
and Fielder even hit a changeup that went down the middle."
(espn)

am willing to believe he simply stank yesterday, and is not injured...

I swear.. I turned the game on just to have a peek..hmm 2-0.
Went into the other room, folded some laundry, turned that TV on.... 4-0.
So, I did what my father used to do, I shut the tv off and took a nap.

Woke up about an hour later 10-0.

jeeezzzzusss.

Wednesday afternoon - Red Sox at Toronto.

I'll be there.

I'm counting on Boston to make Toronto look good.

@Region Philbis,
It was raining on and off so the lid was down. Almost felt like it was snowing when we got out.

The Blue Jays first game of the season was a record-setter in terms of length.

According to STATS LLC, the Indians-Blue Jays opener was the longest of 1,360 opening-day games played since 1901.

It got a bit boring at one point - I think I missed two entire innings of Boston at bat - they were on and off so fast.

home cookin', and a 12-2 spankin'... Mr. Green

plenty of hits, and beckett pitched like beckett should pitch.
ellsbury dinged his shoulder -- hopefully nothing too serious.

i think the Nation can take their collective finger off the panic button...
