@Region Philbis,
given my choice, I'd rather have jd drew.

@Rockhead,

JD is slowing down, and he might be hangin' 'em up at the end of the season.
they're saying he needs shoulder surgery in the off-season if he decides to keep going...

@Region Philbis,
You'll be surprised by how well the mighty Yankees do. At some point Sabathia, will break out of his trance that seems to come along whenever facing the weird looking team of Massachusetts.

That along with how the Yankees often prevail when exhausted could lead to a complete shutout of the poorly attired Massachusetts team (although with Hughes and Burnett as followups we are more or less looking for a miracle)

The only thing that could cause the Yankees severe problems is if they do quite well today. As has been past seen they have a tendency to go into a tailspin after highly successful games.

It was a decent game last night. I've seen better, I've seen worse. At least Sabathia is out of his slump as the mighty Yankees chalk up another victory.

Keeping on the Sox theme of the thread, Congratulations are to be given to the Boston team as Friday is expected to mark their 700th consecutive sold-out game.
http://www.nytimes.com/2011/08/30/sports/baseball/red-sox-sellout-streak-will-hit-700-games-on-friday.html

"Plenty of Good Seats Unavailable

The run began on May 15, 2003, when Pedro Martinez beat the Texas Rangers, 12-3. It continues this week as the Yankees visit Boston for a three-game series that begins Tuesday. And appropriately, Fenway Park’s sellout streak is scheduled to hit 700 games on Friday night when the Rangers will again be Boston’s opponent."

@Sturgis,

our beat writers pointed out that he did give up 10 hits, had to throw 128 pitches to get thru 6 innings, and wasn't
instilling much fear into the heads of the opposition.

that said, he did do a masterful job of minimizing damage.
the sawx left a whopping 16 runners on base -- at least one in every inning.

too many hit by pitches for my liking.
with beckett on the bump tonight, the umps would be wise to warn both benches before he throws his first pitch...

@Region Philbis,
I'd say after last night's brush-back derby, the rivalry has 'kicked it up anutha notch', wouldn't you?!

I'm going to be glued to the TV for tonight's game as Becket is pitching against Hughes. Umpires better be on their toes and pre-warn the pitchers about zero-tolerance. Ortiz, Gonzo, Pedroia and Ellsbury also better have their elbow guards on.

Let the games begin. Gawd I love this Yankee-RS drama!

BTW, Crawford needs a heart-transplant. He and Tony Romo are on the transplant list of those athletes who need a new heart.

the sawx flashed some leather in the 7th...
gotta love tek's support.
we have the best catching tandem --
the 2-headed monstah has 23 dingers & 78 ribs...
bard and pap -- pray for a nap...

@Region Philbis,
hahaha!

Seriously, that catcher-by-committee-tandem was some I could hardly imagine. The fact is that 'Tek is producing and Salty CAN hit makes this die-hard Sawx fan very happy. Visions of World Serious are dancing my head. I'm going to say it again...Pedroia and Ellsbury make it big on my All-time Red Sawx team. I cringe just thinking of how out-of-place Manny would have been on this team.

That is - until I see the dreaded Philly juggernaut as their competition. They look as though they got it all now. Their #1 and 2 pitchers can be interchanged - more like 1 and 1A. And the rest of that team ... wow!

@Ragman,

halladay had some mediocre starts against us when he was on toronto.
lee will be tough against our lefties.
the key will be to get the starter outta there in the 6th, then go to work on their bullpen...

@Region Philbis,
"Tell me someting...do you hearin your head the phrase sang by the-little-train-that-could...every time Pedroia comes up to bat or dives for a ball or the belly flops in the dirst to get on base. "I think I can, I think I can!

The thing I see is that Halladay is a different pitcher than he was back then on the Blow-Jays. There's scuttle-butt out there now about consideration for him as a candidate for NL MVP. a but overblown, but he's been purty 'mazin.

The winner of NL MVP, in actuality SHOULD go to either Victorino or Upton at this point, depending on their health 'til the end of this season.

However, our set-up man (Bard) and reliever (Pap) are as good as ... no better ... than anyone else's. May their healthy arms continue that way all the way...to...Nirvana-land.
