And if you do, do you have to be honest? I don't want to be counted for Illinois, and especially not for my neighborhood.

It states on the form that it is against the law to refuse to return it filled out. Penalty? Dunno.

I received one today. The first Census I have personally handled. I'm going to have to ask 4 other flatmates their personal materials so I can make sure it gets properly filled out so that New York City and New York state gets its proper federal funding.

not to mention that they will talk to the neighbors, pull utility records and the like to try to figure out the census at your address. You will be counted, you have no choice.

Oh, but I'm moving in 10 days andmy neighbors know nothing. Its with $100 tosee them go through all that. I'd be helping keep someone employed.

I'm surprised at how painless it was. Clearly the US government needs German help in torturing its subjects with bureacracy.

They are employed with your tax money. It's good to be counted. More federal money going into your area keeps your local taxes lower. Let some movie star or basketball player help pay for the desks in your local elementary school.

My friend needed to kill 10 minutes so he filled his out. It only took him 4 minutes. He was pissed, cause he had 6 minutes left to kill.

The money will be allotted and spent, no matter what. What makes you think the people your share gets shunted off to are more deserving? In no part of the country are things one whit better, almost guaranteed.
