water softener 5600 SE

Hi, I have a 5600SE Elite water softener in the home we recently purchased. I've never had a water softener before and consequently have forgotten to replace the salt recently. There was about a foot of brine solution left in the tank when I dumped some more salt into it. I'm having difficulty finding out from the manual whether there is another step I should take to regenerate the brine solution or if it will do this on its own.
